Indian Yoga Association Meeting at SAS

Location:  Society House, Sri Aurobindo Society, Pondicherry

A meeting for the formation of the Puducherry chapter of Indian Yoga Association (IYA) was conducted at SAS premises on 8 December 2019 from 10 a.m.  to 12 noon.  Around 18 members from various yoga-related organisations in Puducherry attended the meeting. Dr. Sampadananda Mishra who is the SAS representative to IYA welcomed the members gathered.

Prof. K Subramaniyam, Chairperson, Andrapradesh chapter of IYA explained the purpose of the IYA and he specifically mentioned that many organisations joining hands together for a single and noble purpose of promoting Yoga is the need of the hour.  He said that  this effort of formation of IYA’s state and UT chapters, will help emerge IYA as a strong body in standardising many aspects of Yoga.

Dr. Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, Director, Standing PPP Committee, IYA narrated the brief history of the formation of IYA.  Dr. Madan Mohan, an eminent Yogacharya emphasised that more research-based programmes must be promoted through the IYA platforms.  Shri. Ravi Tumuluri, Joint Secretary IYA explained the structure and various programmes of IYA and highlighted how the Puducherry chapter of IYA can play an important role in bringing many stake holders of Yoga in Puducherry under one banner of IYA.  He insisted that combined programmes for promoting Yoga-related activities should be organised in Puducherry.

The details of the formation of the Puducherry chapter of IYA will be shared with the EC of IYA and after approval, it will be put in place for furthering the activities of IYA in Puducherry.
