Course Series on Prenatal Education
As part of our ongoing work in the area of Prenatal Education, we have developed a three-course series which covers the area in a most comprehensive manner. A brief information about this is provided here. A special portal for Prenatal Education will soon be available with more relevant details about these courses and other activities taken up by SAFIC in this field of work.
This course series is designed in a three-tiered format. The first two courses can also be offered independently to interested audience.
Ujjeevanam: The Art and Science of Conscious Living
This one semester course, is designed to make college students become aware of various aspects related to life which will help them prepare to enter consciously into the next phase of life, that of householders. Topics covered will include – purpose of life, duties and responsibilities, brahmacharya, lifestyle choices, social and emotional aspects, human relationships, love and marriage, place of grihasta-ashram in the larger vision of individual and collective life, etc. Course material will include insights from various ancient Indian texts along with relevant contemporary writings on these topics. Learning activities will include lecture-discussions, presentations, group projects, research papers, and practical exercises.
This course is open to any student enrolled in any educational programme at the undergraduate or post-graduate level at any university or college.
Sambhūti: Pre-natal Education
This 12-month course is designed to assist couples and individuals who are planning to start a family become more conscious regarding their lifestyle choices and actions, both during the pre-pregnancy and pregnancy periods. The course is based on the premise that conscious conception has the potential to transform the essence of the human population in a matter of few generations. Couples who are struggling with infertility issues will also benefit from this course. Course material will include insights from various ancient Indian texts along with relevant contemporary writings on these topics. Both the theoretical and practical components of the course will be based on the relevant clinical, psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects related to pre-pregnancy and pregnancy.
For the pre-pregnancy part of the course, following topics will be covered — preparing for pregnancy (both for mother and father), conscious conception, holistic well-being, prevention of deformities in the child, etc. For the pregnancy part of the course, topics covered will include — month-based physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development of the foetus; physical and emotional well-being of the mother; the parents’ psychological and emotional connection with the baby; preparing for a conscious and natural delivery; dealing with inter-generational conflicts and pregnancy related folk superstitions, month-based therapies such as yoga therapy, music therapy, aroma therapy, colour therapy, mantra therapy, flower therapy, story-telling, meditation and breathing exercises, creative exercises, etc., key elements in post-natal care, overall development of the baby during the first year, key aspects of conscious parenting. Learning activities will include lecture-discussions, presentations, practical exercises, therapy sessions, self-directed exercises based on facilitators’ guidance, etc.
This continuing education and life-enrichment course is open to any staff member working at any university or organisation or any adult member of the larger community around the organisation. The course participant should have a reasonable proficiency in English in order to follow the course content.
Prasūti: Art and Science of Conscious Birthing (A Diploma Course in Pre-Natal Education)
This 12-month course is essentially a combination of the first two tiers, along with some specific content relevant for learners who wish to be trained to become conscious pregnancy therapists, childbirth educators and breast-feeding advisors. This will be of interest to Ayurvedic practitioners, yoga teachers, psychologists, counsellors, gynaecologists, general medical practitioners, physiotherapists, nurses, social activists, and anyone interested in birthing the new humanity. In addition to the topics covered in the first two tiers, this course will also include topics such as – counselling the parents-to-be, sensitivity training, planning and administering relevant therapies for the parents-to-be during the different stages of the pregnancy, tracing the position of the foetus, guiding the mother (during delivery), natural home birth practices prevalent in various cultures, cultural and ethical considerations when working with parents-to-be, techniques and exercises for a smooth delivery of the child, caring for the child in the first year and other aspects related to parenting. The learners will also gain sufficient practical experience in giving the various therapies to the mother-to-be. It will be mandatory for learners to complete all the required hours of training and assigned exercises to become eligible for certification.
This professional course is open to anyone who aspires to become a childbirth educator or conscious pregnancy therapist. Ayurvedic practitioners, yoga teachers, psychologists, counsellors, gynaecologists, general medical practitioners, physiotherapists, nurses, midwives, social activists, and anyone interested in birthing the new humanity are eligible to apply. Anyone enrolled in an existing health-related educational programme at the undergraduate or post-graduate level at any university or college is also eligible to apply. The minimum qualifications to apply are: Completed high school (+2); reasonable proficiency in English; interest in contributing positively to the society.
